  Cardiometabolic Syndrome

Most diets have few, if any, food restrictions and mix healthy carbs, proteins and fats to “balance” and lower calories. These diets usually have 60% of calories coming from carbs, which get converted to glucose. Since our bodies use up stores of glucose before burning fat, weight loss can be erratic. Moreover, by lowering the minimum daily protein levels, muscle mass can be lost which results in lowered metabolism and slower weight loss. The MindSet protocol takes a different track – for a relatively short period of time we use an “unbalanced” diet by using the daily required protein levels to maintain muscle mass, while lowering fats and carbs so that the body does not replace glucose stores and therefore burns fat.

MindSet provides you with a medically-based approach to achieving and sustaining your weight loss by treating both your physical and emotional needs. We seek to improve your health through lowered Body Mass Index (BMI) and other cardiometabolic risk factors. MindSet offers tasty meal replacements and snacks to supplement lean proteins and healthy vegetables. Even more important, you will have a trained coach who will help you stay on course through four phases of the program, along with our partner dietitians, trainers and psychologists who can help you make the necessary lifestyle adjustments for long-term success.

This approach works! Even though the results vary by individual, to date, our experience has been that our clients have experienced an average weight loss between 40 to 60 pounds.

Obesity is the number 2 cause of preventable death in the U.S., following tobacco and more important than alcohol and is a major factor in overall health care cost increases. The AMA and other professional medical societies have long recommended that physicians monitor their patients’ BMI and counsel them to lose weight. But a recent National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) survey found that only 40% of physicians had actually done so. As a result, the Affordable Care Act (ACA) is increasing physician, insurer, hospital and patient accountability to lower the financial costs of obesity and other preventative conditions. By referring patients to MindSet and letting us handle the weight loss program for you, physicians can see better patient results and improve practice accountability and documentation to meet increasing regulatory demands.

A recent Rand study found that the average weight loss for an average woman in a workplace wellness program is less than one pound over the first three years of the program and is only one pound for the average man. Although most employers express confidence that their wellness programs reduce health care costs, only 2% actually estimate the savings. MindSet provides its evidence-based program through employers to employees on-site for broader access and convenience and provides effective documentation to employers so your company can earn an attractive return on your lifestyle management program.
